Introduction
Simvastatin is used along with a proper diet to help lower “bad” cholesterol and fats (such as LDL, triglycerides) and raise “good” cholesterol (HDL) in the blood. It belongs to a group of medicines known as “statins.” It works by reducing the amount of cholesterol made by the liver. Lowering “bad” cholesterol and triglycerides and raising “good” cholesterol decreases the risk of heart disease and helps prevent strokes and heart attacks.
How To Use
- Take simvastatin by mouth with food as directed by the doctor.
- Swallow the tablet whole with water.
- Do not crush, chew, or split the tablet.
- If you are using the liquid form of simvastatin, take it on an empty stomach.
- Shake the bottle well for at least 20 seconds before each dose.
- Carefully measure the dose using a special measuring device/spoon.
- Do not use a household spoon because you may not get the correct dose.
- Take simvastatin regularly to get the most benefit from it.
- To help remember, take simvastatin at the same time.

This medicine is used for reduction of total cholesterol, LDL-Cholesterol, apolipoprotein B and triglycerides in primary hypercholesterolemia(high level of cholesterol), heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia(high cholesterol levels) or combined hyperlipidemia( high levels of lipids). Reduce the risk of mortality and non fatal myocardial infarction(heart attack).
Side Effects
Some patients may experience headache, abdominal pain and diarrhoea, constipation, muscle cramps, alopecia(hair loss), peripheral neuropathy(nerve disorder), anemia, hepatitis, myalgia(pain in a muscle), jaundice or rashes.
