Expert Advice

  • Hands should be washed properly before using the product
  • Contact lenses to be removed before use and wait 15 mins before reinserting
  • To introduce the medicine into the eyes, first tilt your head back & look upward, then instill drops into the eyes. Then close eyes & roll eyeballs in all directions. Don’t blink eyes for 30 seconds and apply gentle pressure to the inner corners of the eye
  • Avoid touching tip of applicator in the eye
  • Also wait 5 mins before instilling any other medicine.

Indications

This medicine is indicated for ocular hypertension (poor drainage of a fluid inside the eye) and open angle glaucoma (a form of eye disease) where other treatments have either failed or not tolerated.

Side Effects

Its side effects include darkening of mixed colored irises (inform patient of this); growth of darker, longer & thicker lashes; blurred vision, conjunctival hyperemia (conjunctival reaction), foreign body sensation, eye irritation, blepharitis (inflammation of eyelids), eye pain, photophobia (light sensitivity), conjunctivitis. However, this is not a complete list of all side effects. Always seek medical help when the condition worsens.

Precautions

Its use is specially cautioned in inflammatory neovascular (sight-threatening complication), angle closure or congenital glaucoma, pigmentary glaucoma, open angle glaucoma in pseudophakia (false lens) patients, severe asthma, risk factors for iritis (inflammation of iris), uveitis (inflammation of uvea) or cystoid macular oedema (painless disorder affecting central retina), period of cataract surgery & having history of herpetic keratitis (viral infection of eye).

This medicine reaches its fill effect after 8-12 hours, and reduced pressure lasts for at least 24 hours. Mostly you use latanoprost whole your life but if recommended otherwise by the doctor, you may stop using it.

Can you use too much of latanoprost?

This drug shouldn’t be used more than once in a day. As using it more than once a day may result in the medicine not working for you and will not help in lowering pressure in your eyes.

Why should this medicine be taken at night?

It helps to effectively lower IOP (intraocular pressure) during the day and nighttime with once nightly administration. However, it is found that the daytime latanoprost effect on IOP and uveoscleral outflow is more pronounced.

What foods should be avoided with Glaucoma?

if you are consuming high trans fatty acid, this may result in damaging the optic nerve. So, you should avoid baked goods like cookies, cakes, donuts, French fries or stick margarine to steer clear from deteriorating your glaucoma.

How does sleep affect eye pressure?

As lack of sleep is correlated with detrimental health, hence it may eventually lead a person to serious eye conditions like glaucoma i.e. increased pressure inside the eye.

What are the uses of Timolol?

This medication is used for treatment high pressure in the eye (glaucoma) or other eye diseases.

How to store Timolol?

Please store this medicine at room temperature (18-25 Celsius) or refrigerate, depending on the medicine type and manufacturer. Keep medicine away from excessive light, moisture, and children.
